This weekend was my first baby shower, thrown by my mom’s wonderful friends, who are “bonus mommies” to me. I could not have felt more special! There was a yummy lunch, even yummier desserts, games, and gifts galore.
Baby Boy now has a small collection of adorable clothes, including some “tough like daddy” outfits that Kyle particularly likes. I’m feeling very clever at this point for resisting buying a bunch of clothes myself! He also has some much-needed gear, which make us feel like maybe we’ll actually be ready for this kiddo when he decides to show up.
The best part, of course, was all the people who came. My mom and mother-in-law were there, most of my “bonus mommies”, a few friends, and some out-of-towners from Seattle – my mom’s college roommate and my aunt/cousins! I wish I could rewind and spend more time with all of them. It was too much fun.
Meanwhile, back in normal-land, Kyle was left at home to work on the house. Well… not a lot got done. Suffice it to say that there were some obstacles that Kyle decided he couldn’t work around (or in his words, “there was $h!t in the way”. haha).
The lack of progress caused me some anxiety, since I can feel how big the baby is getting, and we’re less than 8 weeks away from my due date, but Kyle and I discussed it and we’re feeling good about the re-arranged plan. As long as Baby Boy doesn’t come out too early, we’re still in good shape to have the basement ready for everything that is currently in the nursery so we can, you know, set up the nursery. With baby stuff.
So we’re back in the comfort zone. This weekend was a major success for both of us if you measure on the happy- scale. And it turns out, that was the only scale that really mattered this weekend.
