Life at our house has been wild lately! Christmas has come and gone, and it was really special this year. Between the customary Christmas Crab Feed at our house on Christmas Eve, Christmas morning at my mom’s, Christmas dinner at Kyle’s sister’s, my dad visiting, and getting all the “santa stuff” in order, we were full-up! It was lovely, and we enjoyed it. But boy oh boy am I glad the holidays are over!
In the midst of all of it, Lewis had to get his first stitches! He had a run-in with a knife which had been loaded point-up in the dishwasher. I was loading the last few things in, and didn’t notice the dangerous situation. But even so, I was yelling at the kid not to play in the dishwasher. He knows better, but he just can’t resist! After I yelled “stay out of the dishwasher” for the 100th time, Lewis got pissed at me and started hitting the dishes.
Well… you can imagine how the need for stitches arose, I’m sure. He smacked the top of a knife and gave himself a nice, deep cut. We got him calmed down and got the bleeding under control pretty quickly, but we took him into the doctor just in case. If the same cut had been on my hand, I would have slapped a bandaid on and called it a day. But since he is just 1.5 years old, I didn’t know what was appropriate, since he isn’t old enough to understand how to care for a wound.
Anyway, long story short, I’m glad we went in. The doc stitched him up (my little brother was there and was traumatized), and 5 days later (yesterday), the stitches came out. Not terribly dramatic, overall. But there were definitely some screaming-filled moments, and I’m glad that’s behind us!
Other than Christmas and stitches, it is mostly business as usual. The kid hasn’t climbed out of his crib a second time, which is lovely. And for the most part, he’s been sleeping pretty well. Last night was an exception to that statement, but I’d rather not dwell on that (yaaaaaaaaaaawn).
We’re very much looking forward to 2017. We are wrapping up 2016 feeling pretty positive about things, and feel like there is a lot of happiness in store for us in the upcoming year.
